Out-of-contract Sampdoria goalkeeper Sergio Romero is expected to seal a free transfer to Serie A rivals Roma in the coming days.

The Argentine international spent last season largely warming the bench at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris, having originally signed up as first-choice stopper with the Blucerchiati in August 2011.

According to Il Tempo, sporting director Walter Sabatini is currently putting together the final details of a deal that will take Romero to the Stadio Olimpico, but that there remains a small difference of opinion between the parties over the subject of wages.

However, an agreement with the 28-year-old is said to be very close, after his four-year Sampdoria contract ran out at the end of June.

Romero has amassed 64 caps for his country so far, whilst representing Racing Club in his homeland, Dutch side AZ Alkmaar and principality outfit Monaco during his club career.
