Roma are primed to make a desperate attempt to steal Anderlecht star Aleksandar Mitrovic from under the noses of Newcastle.

The Serbian striker is flying to England to undergo a medical with the Magpies on Thursday, but having already registered interest earlier on in the transfer window, Roma are ready to reignite their move at the latest possible moment.

Rudi Garcia’s side will present a substantial offer to the Belgians in the coming hours, report SportItalia.

The player is valued at around €16 million by the famous club, and early indications suggest that Roma may meet the asking price outright in order to hasten a potential transfer.

20-year-old Mitrovic has been an inspired signing for Anderlecht, providing a return of 36 league goals in the two seasons since they bought him for just €5 million from Partizan.

Meanwhile, Roma strikers Mattia Destro and Seydou Doumbia currently have uncertain futures, suggesting that a starting berth may be available for Mitrovic should he link up with the Giallorossi.
