Roma look likely to turn to Manchester United and Chelsea for defensive reinforcements this summer.

The Giallorossi sporting director Walter Sabatini is looking to strengthen the squad’s backline given Davide Astori’s loan has not been made permanent, while Jose Holebas has left to join Watford. Plus there are question marks over the futures of Maicon and Ashley Cole.

Sky Sport Italia reports that the Manchester United right-back Rafael might be a Roma player next season, although both Fiorentina and Napoli are also monitoring the Brazilian international and so a deal would be more difficult to take place.

Rafael has managed five goals in 170 games since moving to Old Trafford in 2008.

Another option for Rudi Garcia’s men, also announced by Sky Sport Italia, is fellow Brazilian Filipe Luis, who currently plays for Chelsea.

Luis joined the side at the start of last season and has appeared 26 times since, with one goal to his name.
