Sampdoria are keen on strengthening their attack by recruiting ex-Celtic forward and current free agent Georgios Samaras.

The Greek international left the Glasgow club in 2014 to move to West Bromwich Albion and although he since spent a time on loan in Saudi Arabia with Al-Hilal, he had his contract terminated upon returning to the Hawthorns earlier this month.

Reports in Italy suggest that the Blucerchiati would like to discuss a deal for the 30-year-old in order to be prepared should Stefano Okaka confirm his departure to Anderlecht and have opened tentative talks with his representatives.

They are viewing a move for Samaras as a much likelier transfer than a possible swoop for Antonio Cassano, which they have all but admitted defeat on.

Faccundo Ferreyra is also on their list of targets as are German Denis, Rolando Bianchi and Gregoire Defrel although moves for any of those are more complicated than one for the unattached ex-Manchester City marksman.
