Former Sampdoria midfielder Alessandro Scanziani has shared his concerns following Sampdoria’s 4-0 defeat to Vojvodina.

Doria were given a major shock during the first leg of their Europa League qualifier and their chances of qualification now appear extremely slim.

“It’s a worrying result even if Vojvodina had already played four competitive matches and were more advanced in terms of physical preparation,” said Scanziani to Tuttomercatoweb.com.

“Losing at home like that is excessive. It seemed to me that Zenga [Walter] brought a sense of security, and had gone to see Vojvodina on several occasions and had studied them well. Maybe the players were a bit presumptuous and thought that they were stronger. ”

Scanziani has also discussed whether this disappointing result could have an impact upon the future of Walter Zenga.

“Sampdoria had dreamed of returning to Europe and the risk of an immediate exit is not the best,” said Scanziani.

“The coach is always in danger, especially in Italy, because it is always based on the results.”

Finally the 62-year-old also touched on the rumours of a return for Antonio Cassano saying that he did not think it was wise.

“Beyond the technical ability of the player, which is among the best in Italy and in Europe, Cassano should not return to Sampdoria. Football is a team sport and the team win and lose together.”
