Xherdan Shaqiri’s time at Inter looks set to come to an end after he was left out of the Nerazzurri squad for their friendly with Stuttgarter Kickers on Saturday, with reports suggesting a move to Schalke is set to be completed.

The 23-year-old has been heavily linked with a move away from the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in recent weeks with the likes of Stoke City and Everton interested in his services, but it appears a return to the Bundesliga is set to be in his future.

Gazzetta dello Sport report that the Switzerland international was left out of the squad in order to avoid injury, with a move to the Die Konigsblauen set to be completed in the coming days.

Shaqiri only joined the Nerazzurri in January from Bayern Munich on loan with an option to buy, but he struggled for playing time after only making eight Serie A starts.

Inter have already acquired Jeison Murillo, Miranda, Martin Montoya and Geoffrey Kondogbia this summer and it is believed Shaqiri’s sale would help finance moves for Manchester City’s Stevan Jovetic and Wolfsburg’s Ivan Perisic.
