Udinese want to bring former Juventus midfielder Simone Pepe back to the Stadio Friuli before the start of the new season.

The 31-year-old has struggled with injuries since leaving the Zebrette for Turin during the summer of 2010 after four successful years in the black and white stripes of Udinese.

According to TuttoMercatoWeb, coach Stefano Colantuono has identified fans favourite Pepe to sharpen the Bianconeri attack ahead of next season’s Serie A campaign despite the Italy international’s chequered injury history.

Pepe scored 11 goals in his first two years in Turin during 61 appearances before injury struck, and despite missing large spells of the subsequent two years, the pacy winger claimed four league titles and a Coppa Italia victory during his time with The Old Lady.

The 23-time Italy international also scored 14 goals in 104 appearances in his first spell for the Friulani. Pepe is available on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract at Juventus.
