Reports in Italy are suggesting that AC Milan centre-back Philippe Mexes could still make a deadline day move to Fiorentina.

The 33-year-old is no longer an automatic starter for his current club and new Milan boss Sinisa Mihajlovic has ample alternatives in defence, especially since the arrival of former Roma youngster Alessio Romagnoli.

According to Il Corriere dello Sport, with time running out on the last day of transfer dealings, the French ace and the Rossoneri have not ruled out a final-minute move to Florence.

Mexes, known for his fiery temperament, has been in Italy since 2004 when he joined Roma from Ligue 1 side Auxerre.  He went on to make 183 Serie A appearance for the Giallorossi before heading for Milan in 2011.
