AC Milan defender Gabriel Paletta could be heading for an exit from the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza with Atalanta poised to swoop for his signature.
The Italian-Argentine centre-back only joined the Rossoneri in February 2015 after a five-year spell with Parma, but the possible signing of Alessio Romagnoli from Roma would force the 29-year-old to consider his options.
“If Romagnoli arrives, we’ll ask to leave”, said agent Martin Guastadisegno in an interview with Tuttomercatoweb.com.
“He has a strong desire to play regularly because a call-up to the [Italy] national team is a top objective.”
The player’s agent also addressed the subject of Atalanta’s interest but warned that his client would prefer to play for a team that can compete with the best.
“They [Atalanta] are one of the clubs that contacted us and their coach has expressed a very strong desire to sign Gabriel,” said Guastadisegno.
“Of course, he would like to play for a team on the same level as Milan if he decides to leave.
“He played in 14 of a possible 17 matches since arriving in Milan so he is not a reserve player.
“The priority is to stay in Italy as he wants to wear the Azzurri shirt, but we wouldn’t rule out a foreign team if they can compete for trophies.”
Paletta has been capped three times and featured in Italy’s 2014 World Cup side.
