AC Milan striker Carlos Bacca was pleased that his first goal for the Rossoneri helped lift them above Empoli on Saturday evening.

The summer signing from Sevilla scored the opening goal in a game that saw Milan struggle against a well-organised Azzurri outfit and the forwards feels competition with Mario Balotelli will bring the best out of both players.

“It is a difficult game to play a team like Empoli, as they do not give anything up,” he explained to Mediaset Premium at full-time.

“We know we have to improve, but we went into the match with the right attitude. Empoli pressed our midfielders and [Andrea] Bertolacci and Suso suffered, but nevertheless we won.

“[With Balotelli], there is healthy competition; the important thing is that Milan benefit from that competition.”

Balotelli remained on the bench throughout the Rossoneri’s first victory of the season, so will be looking to make his second debut for the club in the derby against Inter.
