Javier Mascherano BarcelonaBarcelona’s Javier Mascherano may be looking to leave the Spanish giants and would favour a move to a leading Serie A side if he does.

The former West Ham United midfielder has instructed his agent to investigate the possibility of a move to Italy and has been sounding out potential suitors including Juventus, Inter, AC Milan and Roma.

In an interview with LaRoma24.it, Gustavo Mascardi, appointed by Mascherano to mediate a deal, revealed his client’s preferences.

“I have already spoken with [Juventus’ Giuseppe] Marotta,” he admitted, but negotiations stopped because the manager of Juventus spoke with [Barcelona sporting director Ariedo] Braida, who told him that Barcelona didn’t want to let him go.

“Last night I had dinner with Ariedo and told him that the boy wants a change of scenery, preferably to Italy.

“No team is the first option, at the moment Inter are the team that have been more willing than the others, but nobody has first option. I have already spoken about the player with Marotta, [Adriano] Galliani, Piero Ausilio and Walter Sabatini.

“The situation is clear, and the market is open. Anything, or nothing, could happen.”

Mascherano joined Barcelona in 2010, and has played 231 games in all for the club, though is yet to score.
