Carpi are ready to make their mark in the transfer window and swoop for Guangzhou Evergrande’s Alberto Gilardino, however they could yet face competition from Fiorentina.

The 33-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan with the Viola and previously admitted that he was enjoying his time back in Florence and wanted to stay at the club but no deal was forthcoming. He has already turned down the chance to join Greek champions Olympiacos in the hope of securing a move back to Fiorentina.

However, as things stand it is Carpi who are ready to make their move for Gilardino, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, but the forward is fully prepared to delay any decision in order to return to Florence.

They much travelled striker has been prolific for a number of clubs including the likes of Parma, AC Milan and Fiorentina and is currently twelfth on the list of all-time top scorers in Serie A.
