Former Hamburg and Schalke defender Heiko Westermann has confirmed interest from Juventus, but refused to verify that a deal had been reached.
The Old Lady have been decimated by injuries in the rearguard, as Leonardo Bonucci is currently their only available central defender for their Super Cup clash against Lazio this week.
The 31-year-old German international is a currently a free agent after being deciding not to renew his deal with Hamburg last season, and reports in recent days suggested he was on the verge of a surprise move to the Bianconeri.
“The interest of Juventus flatters me, but right now I do not want to comment any further,” Westermann told German newspaper Hamburger Morgenport.
Westermann is a hugely experienced defender, accumulating over 400 Bundesliga appearances in his career so far.
