Fiorentina want to close the signing of Dnipro striker Nikola Kalinic before the season opener.

The 27-year-old Croatian international has been a prolific goalscorer for the Ukrainian giants since moving from Blackburn Rovers in 2011, and his performances have led to interest from the Viola.

It is no secret Fiorentina have been looking for a new striker for the upcoming season after allowing Mario Gomez to leave for Besiktas, and have stepped up their search as the season opener nears.

Tuttomercatoweb report that Viola boss Paulo Sousa has specifically requested the signing of Kalinic after becoming impressed with his performance in last season’s Europa League final against Sevilla, where the striker netted a goal despite a 3-2 loss.

Kalinic, valued at around 8 million by his club, made 48 appearances last term and netted 19 goals.
