Fiorentina duo set for new contracts following interest from Sunderland and Norwich City

Matias Fernandez FiorentinaFiorentina are set to extend the contracts of creative midfielder Matias Fernandez and defender Marcos Alonso before the transfer window closes at the end of August.

The Chilean midfielder had been linked with a return to his homeland, while Alonso was the subject of interest from Norwich City and his former club Sunderland in the Premier League.

However, La Gazzetta Dello Sport reports that la Viola have arranged meetings with the players’ agents following approval from new coach Paulo Sousa, and the new deals are set to be announced in a matter of days.

Fernandez enjoyed his best season for the Gigliati, emerging as the chief playmaker in a Fiorentina side that finished fourth in Serie A for the third year running.

Alonso is expected to battle captain Manuel Pasqual for the starting left-back position having made 22 appearances in the 2014-15 Serie A season.
