Joaquin - FiorentinaFiorentina midfielder Joaquin is set for a contract renewal with some help from sponsors.

The 34-year-old looked to be on his way back to his first club, Real Betis, after Fiorentina failed to contact him to discuss his contract, which expires the summer of 2016.

His relationship with the fans is paying off, as Tuttomercatoweb.com reports that Fiorentina fans are willing to sponsor and help pay for a contract renewal.

Joaquin’s agent is currently working with Fiorentina sporting director Daniele Prade on a one-year extension, which seems to be the most viable option for both parties.

The player still wishes to retire at Real Betis, and a one year extension would give him the flexibility to do so, while also gracing la Viola with another season at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.

Despite his age, the Spaniard has been in fantastic form since his move to the Italian club in June 2013, and has quickly earned himself a reputation as a fan favorite for his strong performances and professionalism.
