Inter lost 1-0 to Galatasaray in a pre-season friendly at the Turk Telekom Arena, handing them their fourth straight defeat.

On Roberto Mancini’s return to Galatasaray, former Nerazzurri man Wesley Sneijder got a goal in the second half giving the home side victory.

The Turkish side started on the front foot as another former Inter man, Lukas Podolski, had a powerful shot blocked by the legs of Samir Handanovic in the Inter goal on five minutes.

Galatasaray nearly took the lead a few minutes later when the Slovenian international failed to cleanly save Selcuk Inan’s shot and striker Burak Yilmaz guided the ball into the back of the net, but the 30-year-old’s effort was denied by the officials who claimed he used his hands in the process.

The closest Inter came in the first half was a Mauro Icardi shot, although it failed to scare Fernando Muslera in the Galatasaray goal despite Icardi being clean through on goal.

Two ex-Inter players then gave their old club something to worry about as they both combined to get the first and only goal in the game ten minutes after the restart, when Podolski cut in from the left and put the ball into the path of Sneijder who drilled the ball into the bottom corner of the goal.

The hosts nearly doubled their lead on the hour mark when Sinan Gamus’s effort fizzed just wide of the post.

A scrappy last few minutes meant an uncomfortable end to the game for Galatasaray, but Martin Montoya’s shot was fired straight at goalkeeper Muslera as Inter failed to equalise.

The result means Inter have now lost four pre-season games in a row, following defeats to Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and rivals AC Milan.
