Garcia - RomaRudi Garcia has confirmed Wojciech Szczesny as the Roma No.1 ahead of the new season.

The Lupi kick off the 2015-16 Serie A season away to Hellas Verona on Saturday evening and French coach Garcia is confident in his goalkeeping options after bringing the Polish international in on loan from Arsenal to challenge Morgan De Sanctis.

“I have made my decision for tomorrow and this year Roma are fortunate to count on two strong goalkeepers, like other teams,” said Garcia to the pre-match press conference.

“But there will be a real No.1 and Szczesny will play against Verona.”

The 51-year-old also discussed Kevin Strootman’s fitness situation, the Dutchman having suffered another setback in his injury comeback from a knee injury that could delay his return until October.

“Kevin is a terrific player, one of the best midfielders in the world,” said Garcia.

“He has my full support and that of the club.

“He is working but while it takes time we are beside him and we all want to get him back even stronger.”
