Former Sporting Clube de Portugal winger Diego Capel has sent a message to fans of his former club, following his move to Genoa for a fee that could eventually rise to €1.3 million.
The 27-year-old had been linked with a number of Premier League clubs during the transfer window, including Southampton and Everton, but has opted for a move to Serie A.
A Genoa statement read: “Genoa has formally agreed a transfer with Sporting for the player Diego Capel. The transfer is a permanent deal. Capel has passed a medical, and had his first training session [this] afternoon.”
Shortly after the move became official, Capel was quick to acknowledge his former club and their fans.
“I’m sorry I cannot greet the fans in the stadium,” he began
“I want to thank them for the great years we have shared,” the winger added.
“Sporting remains in my heart, now I cannot do more, but I will remain a fan.”
