Atalanta at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.

Stevan Jovetic stole the points for Inter in injury time despite a stout defensive performance from Atalanta, who had Carlos Carmona sent off.

An error from debutant Geoffrey Kondogbia allowed La Dea to create the first opening, Alejandro Gomez curling from close range after just two minutes.

Rodrigo Palacio was unable to make use of a good shooting chance and, after picking up an injury in the warm-up, captain Mauro Icardi was forced off early for newboy Stevan Jovetic.

Atalanta faced similar injury woes as frontman German Denis was replaced 23 minutes into an even game, the visitors attacking with pace and Inter threatening with efforts from range.

With no Mateo Kovacic it was up to Marcelo Brozovic to play in behind the strikers and the Croatian almost turned home Palacio’s dangerous cross but for a well-timed Marten De Roon intervention.

Marco Sportiello then did well to deny Kondogbia on either side of the half-time whistle as Inter grew stronger and yet remained unable to break down a committed and well-oiled Oribici defence.

However on 70 minutes there was big trouble for the visitors when Carlos Carmona hacked down Hernanes, picking up a second yellow card after a similarly rash booking earlier on.

In fact the flow of the game changed little, an offside Palacio breaking clear to score a disallowed goal on the 77th minute being the closest Inter came to a winner.

Inter bombarded La Dea in the closing moments, forcing the excellent Sportiello into multiple saves, but Jovetic stepped up to curl home a wonderful 93rd minute winner from 18 yards.

Travelling to newly-promoted Carpi next week, Inter go into the top-half; Atalanta host Frosinone.
