Inter have missed out on the chance to bring Fabio Borini back to Italy, with the striker opting to move to English side Sunderland.

The 24-year-old has spent a troubled time with Liverpool since moving to Merseyside back in 2012, and is poised to return to the Black Cats after a loan move during the 2013-14 season.

BBC Sport report that Liverpool have accepted a bid for his services, with the fee believed to be around €10 million growing to what could be around €14 million due to add-ons.

Inter joined Fiorentina in the race to acquire the Italian’s signature, but it appears they have failed to bring the striker back to Serie A.

Borini had played out a season with Roma a few years ago, scoring nine goals in just 24 appearances.

It made a change from his showing with Liverpool, with just three strikes to his name in 38 games.
