Inter have taken a significant blow in their chances of recruiting Italian defender Domenico Criscito, after the player was recently made vice-captain for Zenit.
The Nerazzurri have been in hot pursuit of the 28-year-old Italy international for quite some time now, with the player’s agent having previously opened the door to a possible loan-move, however after recent events all talk now seems put to rest.
Zenit coach Andre-Villas Boas recently confirmed Criscito to be the team’s new vice-captain, meaning the Italian would have to take over captaincy duties in the absence of Portuguese winger Danny.
“Undoubtedly it’s a great thing to play with captaincy,” Criscito told Zenit’s official website.
“The true captain will always be Danny, but I’m happy to resume the role whenever I have the opportunity.”
The news cements Criscito’s role in the Russian side’s squad, heavily impacting Inter’s chances of luring him away.
