The Swiss international turned down a move to join Stoke last month but a deal could be back on and Stoke boss Mark Hughes is optimistic the transfer could go through.
“The fact that he is here shows things are going in the right direction,” Hughes told reporters after the 1-0 defeat.
“It is never straight forward but we are hoping we can do a deal.
“We have had a pre-season of chasing really quality targets.
“We are hopeful we can do something but until we see players standing in front of the training ground with the shirt in their arms, we will have to see.”
