Juventus are set to embark on a race for Real Madrid midfielder Asier Illarramendi.

The 25-year-old has found himself struggling for playing time with Los Blancos since joining the side for a hefty fee in 2013, and is seen as a prime reinforcement for the likes of Liverpool and the player’s hometown club Real Sociedad as well.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the Basque outfit will have a strong pull in potential negotiations as the player grew up and flourished through the side’s youth system, but Juventus might be able to gain the upper hand for the right price as they require a quick replacement for the recently injured Sami Khedira.

Further reports out of England have linked Liverpool with the player, as the club have previously wanted  the out of favour Spaniard and may incorporate a deal by allowing Lucas Leiva for Inter in order for the Nerazzurri to recover from the sale of Mateo Kovacic to Los Blancos.

Illaramendi made 10 starts with Real Madrid in their most recent campaign and 20 more appearances as a substitute.
