Lazio goalkeeper to miss crucial Champions League fixture

federico marchetti italyLazio goalkeeper Federico Marchetti will miss the first leg of their Champions League qualifier against Bayer Leverkusen through injury.

The Aquile will face the Germans on Tuesday in the first leg of a tie that could, if won, lead to a huge financial boost to the Roman club.

According to Il Messaggero, the Italian has fractured two ribs and will be unable to feature for the capital side.

Marchetti was a key player for Lazio last season helping them finish third making 30 starts in Serie A.

Albanian international Etrit Berisha is set to replace the Italian international and the former Kalmar ‘keeper made ten appearances for Lazio as Marchetti’s backup during the 2014-15 season, conceding nine goals.

Marchetti joined the Biancocelesti in 2011 from Cagliari and has been a key player for Stefano Pioli’s side racking up 141 appearances in all competitions for Lazio.
