New Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic has said he felt nervous when coach Stefano Pioli told him to warm up in the 1-0 Champions League win over Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday.

The Aquile signed the player from Belgian side Genk and he made his debut for the club in the first leg of the Champions League qualifier.

“I had goosebumps when the coach told me to start warming up,” he said to Serbia media outlet, Sport.

“The feeling of the shirt, being here at Lazio, everything seems great. And fortunately, we won against Bayer Leverkusen.

“It all feels so surreal, everything happened so quickly.

“I knew I was on the bench, the rest came suddenly. It was a fantastic feeling, when I heard the anthem of the Champions League, something that had never happened with my former teams.”

However, the 20-year-old was keen to stress the tie was not yet over.

“For the return leg we have a small advantage, but it is an advantage. I want to fulfil my childhood dream, something that makes me proud.

“Playing against the best in the world would be great.”
