Andujar - ArgentinaChampionship club Middlesbrough have been snubbed by Napoli goalkeeper Mariano Andujar.

The 32-year-old spent much of his first season at the Stadio San Paolo in competition with Brazilian shot-stopper Rafael to be Napoli’s number one goalkeeper, making 23 appearances for the Partenopei, a large portion of which were in the Europa League.

Corriere dello Sport have reported Middlesbrough were in for the Argentine, with Napoli happy to move on the keeper having signed Pepe Reina from Bayern Munich, only for Andujar to reject the Championship outfit, who are coached by former Real Madrid defender Aitor Karanka.

Buenos Aires-born Andujar, who has 10 caps for Argentina, made a name for himself at Huracan and Estudiantes before crossing the Atlantic to spend five years at Catania, the last six months of which were on loan from Napoli where he now plies his trade.
