Napoli midfielder Jonathan De Guzman looks set to leave the Stadio San Paolo after being omitted from Maurizio Sarri’s squad for Saturday evening’s friendly against Porto.
The Netherlands international was signed by Rafael Benitez from Swansea City at the start of last season but made just 12 starts in Serie A and now doesn’t appear to be part of new coach Sarri’s plans.
“We are assessing the future,” said the 27-year-old’s agent, Fabio Parisi, in an interview with Tuttonapoli.net.
“I can assure you that De Guzman is well physically, the absence from the squad is a technical decision.
“The boy has always felt comfortable in Napoli.
“Benitez wanted him last year, though now Sarri is the coach and if he [De Guzman] is no longer part of the project we will quietly find the best solution for everyone.”
