Aurelio De LaurentiisNapoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis believes that this coming season’s Serie A championship will be one of the best in recent years after all the top side significantly strengthened their squads over the summer, although he has also warned of the dangers of over spending.

After several years of under-achievement both AC Milan and Inter have invested heavily in recent months as they attempt to return to the pinnacle of Italian football, while there has also been significant changes at Napoli, Roma and champions Juventus.

“This year will be a great championship,” De Laurentiis told Sky Sports Italia.

“I am very happy that teams such as AC Milan, Inter, Fiorentina and Roma are strengthening.

“We must, however, also support the aims of the football association who want to look at the financial statements of each club in order to avoid the problems we saw at Parma.

“[Carlo] Tavecchio told me that only three to six to have balanced books. In Serie B there has been a disaster.”

Parma were dissolved at the end of last season after finical problems saw the club declared bankrupt. They have now reformed in the lower divisions of Italian football.
