Lazio’s latest signing Sergej Milinkovic-Savic has scoffed at reports suggesting that too high a fee was paid for his services, before going on to relish signing for his new club.

The 20-year-old Serbian joined up with his new team in Shanghai for the Supercoppa Italiana against Juventus after the Aquile agreed a €9 million move with Belgian side Genk, though prior to his departure reports from Belgium allegedly recorded the player claiming that Lazio has paid too much for him.

However,  Milinkovic-Savic has since gone on to deny such statements, denouncing them as ‘an idiot’s words’.

“Those words have never gone out of my mouth,” He told Serbian media, after returning from the game in China.

“I would be an idiot if I had said such a thing. If Lazio have invested such an amount of money it is because it represents my worth. ”

“Joining Lazio is a great opportunity. The more time passes, the more I realize how important this transfer is. I will remember this year for the rest of my life

“It’s strange because it all happened so quickly, first I become a world champion and then I joined such a big club.”
