Young Serbian midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic joined Lazio earlier in August from Belgian club Genk, but was reportedly close to a move to Fiorentina.

A few days before his transfer to the Biancocelesti, he was spotted leaving Florence in tears at a time when there was great speculation over him joining the Florentine-based outfit.

Tuttomercatoweb report that Fiorentina sporting director Daniele Prade commented that the player appeared too hesitant, which is what discouraged him to pursue the finalisation of an agreement.

On top of this, there have been claims from the Vojvodina coach Dragoslav Vukovic that the player never belonged to Genk. Vukovic was adamant that Milinkovic was still under the ownership of his team despite moving to Belgium.

The new Lazio midfielder eventually signed for the Serie A side in a €9 million deal, and will wear the number 21 shirt this season.
