Palermo are set to meet with Alberto Gilardino in an attempt to acquire the striker ahead of the 2015-16 Serie A campaign.

The 33-year-old is still a Guangzhou Evergrande player in China, but is looking to move back to Italy after playing out the second half of last season at Fiorentina.

Gianlucadimarzio.com report the Rosanero’s hierarchy will meet with the Italian forward alongside his agent in an attempt to seal a loan deal for the upcoming season.

The deal could spark a move for current striker Andrea Belotti with Torino tabling a €8 million offer for the Palermo player.

A loan deal to the Sicilian side would see Gilardino attempt to fill the void left by Paulo Dybala after the Argentinian’s move to Italian champions Juventus earlier in the summer and the possibly sale of Belotti.

Gilardino had been playing in Italy since 1999 until his move to China in 2014, but his loan spell with Fiorentina, in which he scored four times, appears to have given the one-time World Cup winner the taste for Italian football yet again.
