Genoa on Sunday evening at the Stadio Renzo Barbera in the first round of the 2015-2016 Serie A campaign as both sides to push on after successful seasons for both clubs last time around.

The Rosanero finished their first campaign back in the top flight after a season in Serie B respectively with an 11th place finish.

The Sicilian side will have their work cut to push on and secure a place in the top half after losing top scorer Paulo Dybala, who moves to Scudetto winners Juventus for a fee around €30 million.

Palermo will, however, be able to go into the encounter with some optimism though after holding on to talented forward Franco Vasquez who has been linked with several high profile clubs in the last 12 months.

Genoa too will be looking to push on in the new campaign after an impressive sixth place finish for the Grifone.

The Rossoblu finished above the two Milan clubs thanks to the goals and stylish play from Iago Falque, Diego Perotti and company.

Spaniard Falque’s departure to Roma leaves a hole in the side but with the Genoa outfit making a sizeable profit from their investment the club has been able to strengthen in several departments.

Serie A veteran Goran Pandev returns to the peninsula after a spell in Turkey, while Ezequiel Munoz joins from Palermo in defence and Diego Capel has moved from Sporting Club de Portugal.

Palermo won their recent encounter with Genoa back in April, recording a 2-1 victory in Sicily, although three of the last five encounters between these sides have been draws.

Genoa last defeated the Rosanero back in May 2012 but a draw is the most frequent result when these sides have met, occurring on nine occasions out of the last 20 in which these sides have met.

Palermo’s Roberto Vitiello and Chochev may miss Sunday’s match after carrying injuries through pre season, while Francesco Bolzoni remains out with a long term injury.

Aljaz Struna and Aleksandar Trajkovski are also unlikely to feature after picking up knocks.

Genoa have four players who miss out through suspension with Armando Izzo, Isaac Cofie, Tomas Rincon and Leonardo Pavoletti all missing out.

Mattia Perin, Diego Perotti and Ezequiel Munoz all miss out through injury.
