Alberto Gilardino looks set to move to Palermo after his agent flew out to China to speak to his current club.

The Italian striker plays for Chinese champions Guangzhou Evergrande but has been linked with a return to Serie A previously with Atalanta, but now it seems that Palermo will finalise a deal for the 2006 World Cup winner.

Palermo24.net reports that the 33-year-old’s agent, Luca Puccinelli, has travelled to China to resolve contract details and complete an agreement to bring Gilardino to the Sicilian club.

Should this happen quickly enough, he is expected to be able to start in the Rosaneri’s opening fixture of the 2015-16 Serie A season, at home to Genoa.

Gilardino has had spells at Fiorentina, Parma and AC Milan during his career and joined Guangzhou Evergrande in 2014, winning the Chinese Super League in his first season.
