Fiorentina captain Manuel Pasqual is optimistic about the club’s chances next season after they achieved a 2-1 victory over Greek side Iraklis.

The Viola have enjoyed a successful pre-season campaign, defeating the likes of Chelsea and Barcelona, and the 33-year-old believes that these results will benefit the club ahead of the forthcoming Serie A season.

“It was a great workout and it was a shame that I was forced to come off,” Pasqual told Violachannel.

“The results from pre-season give us good reason to be optimistic but we will have to keep going until next May.”

The Italian international has also discussed the introduction of coach Paolo Sousa, as well as new signing Nikola Kalinic, who scored during his first appearance for the club.

“I was initially struck by his [Sousa] character. He is really aware and on-the-ball,” said Pasqual.

“Kalinic performed very well and there is now a very good atmosphere in the dressing room.”

Fiorentina will begin their Serie A campaign at home against AC Milan on the 23 August.
