AC Milan were defeated 2-0 by Tottenham Hotspur on a warm Munich evening in the third place play-off game of the Audi Cup.

The Rossoneri appeared to be far from peak fitness and were often left straggling behind the Spurs players who were clearly much further ahead in the pre-season schedule. As a result, the North London side dominated most of the game with their intense pressing and possession of the ball after opening the scoring through Nacer Chadli's sumptuous strike early in the first half. Their win was sealed after the break when Tom Carroll played through the impressive Kieran Trippier who finished smartly.

Tottentham Hotspur

Luke McGee -6- Decent

Looked a bit uncomfortable on the ball and made couple of saves he would have been expected to make.

Jan Vertonghen -7- Impressive

Played out from the back well and was largely untroubled by the Milan attack, he was also strong in the air and very good positionally.

Kieran Trippier -7- Silky

Looked confident on the ball and got forward well. He showed nice bits of skill and produced a lovely through ball to assist Carroll’s goal.

Fedrico Fazio -6- Useful

Dealt with Matri’s physicality but he struggled when players ran beyond him due to a clear lack of pace. He was able to make a good clearance near the goal in the second half.

Ben Davies -6.5- Composed

Got forward well in support of Chadli and Onomah. Like Trippier he look solid on the ball and showed some good vision when playing balls in behind for runners.

Eric Dier -5.5- Recked

Playing in central midfield rather than his usual defensive position and at times looked uncomfortable despite being able to put some good challenges in.

Nacer Chadli -8- Dangerous

Scored a great goal from a short corner and generally looked a threat on the ball. Produced a nice cross for Onomah who should have done better with his first touch.

Tom Carroll -8- Stylish

Good on the ball, he looked eager to get forward and was able to score a great goal in the second half with a delightful little finish.

Nabil Bentaleb -7- Imposing

Dictated the flow of the game well he looked a strong physical presence and dominated the Milan midfield with his all action display often fending off three Milan players at once.

Josh Onomah -6.5- Potential

Looked gifted technically and used his pace well to get in behind the slow Milan defence. First touch in the final third lacked consistency

Erik Lamela -5.5- Inactive

Very quiet and looked a bit isolated in false 9 role. Seemed to be lacking confidence and was reluctant to take risks.

Substitutes

Kevin Wimmer -6- Nice

Looked composed on the ball and relatively untroubled as Tottenham controlled the game. Took one risk that led to a Milan chance.

Ryan Mason -7- Spiffy

Energetic, he possibly could have done better with a chance that fell to him but like other Tottenham midfielders look composed with his passing.

Harry Winks -6.5- Decent

Showed good vision and produced a lovely pass for Lamela which the Argentine couldn’t convert. Generally strong on the ball.

Hugo Lloris -6-Steady

Played out from the back well and like McGee he was barely troubled. Looked assured when he came off his line for crosses.
