Alberto Aquilani FiorentinaFormer Fiorentina midfielder Alberto Aquilani has decided not to move to the USA to play in MLS.

The 31-year-old’s contract with the Viola expired in June and he is now a free agent and was accordingly linked with various clubs in MLS including Montreal Impact but the Italian has decided to stay in Europe.

“We are working on different solutions,” said Aquilani’s agent Andrea D’Amico to Tuttomercatoweb.com.

“The American league’s aim is to expand and MLS could be an interesting option for Aquilani, but it’s one for the future.

“In the immediate future we are looking at other options.”

The former Roma and AC Milan player has reportedly been approached by Ligue 1 clubs Lyon and Marseille as well as Turkish club Besiktas.

The former Liverpool midfielder has also been linked with Hellas Verona and Sampdoria in Serie A although the Gialloblu’s president Maurizio Setti distanced his club from Aquilani.

Aquilani made 25 Serie A appearances for Fiorentina last season.
