With new squad quotas coming into force in the upcoming Serie A season, Roma are on the trail of several Italian-trained players to ensure they reach the requirements.

Clubs will need eight players trained in Italy for three years before they turn 21 under new rules introduced by the FIGC, causing problems for Roma with Alessio Romagnoli leaving for AC Milan and Bologna set to sign Mattia Destro.

That will leave the Giallorossi two players short, with Il Messaggero reporting that their defence will be the priority, given Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa is also set to depart for Lyon.

Torino full-back Danilo D’Ambrosio is a target, most likely for a loan move although Schalke 04 also want the 26-year-old; as is Empoli man Lorenzo Tonelli with the Azzurri willing to do a deal but rejecting an initial €5 million offer from Napoli.

A move for Inter captain Andrea Ranocchia could also be on the cards, the Nerazzurri are happy to sell the Italian and with coach Roberto Mancini also open to the possibility, the Lupi have enquired about the centre-back to gauge the cost of a deal.
