Maicon - RomaRoma full-back Maicon is working hard on his recovery from injury in order to face Serie A champions Juventus next weekend.

Right-sided midfielder Alessandro Florenzi took his place during the Brazilian’s absence on Saturday, as the Giallorossi grabbed a point away from home against Hellas Verona.

La Gazzetta dello Sport have stated that Maicon is determined to be fit in time for next Sunday’s first home match of the campaign, so that he can challenge Florenzi for a spot in the starting line-up.

Giallorossi coach Rudi Garcia insisted upon bringing his players in for extra work at their training base Trigoria, despite a tough test against Verona only a day earlier.

Those who featured on Saturday have been assigned gym work to undertake, while the squad members left out of the side are working on the training field itself.

Maicon is one of the stars who missed out at the Stadio Marc’Antonio Bentegodi, due to lingering knee problems which plagued the 34-year-old former Inter defender throughout last season.

The Brazilian made only 14 league appearances during 2014-15 as a result, scoring a solitary goal.
