Roma are exploring the possibility of bringing Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho to the club before the closure of the current transfer window.

The 25-year-old French international centre-back has been linked with a move away from Merseyside after dropping down the pecking order under manager Brendan Rodgers.

According to Foot Mercato, Giallorossi sporting director Walter Sabatini has identified Sakho as the answer to their defensive problems, with coach Rudi Garcia also keen to bring the former Paris-Saint Germain player to the Italian capital.

Sakho is keen to secure first team football and keep his place in the French international set-up ahead of next summer’s European Championships in France.

Liverpool paid PSG a fee in the region of €22 million for the powerful defender in September 2013, with Sakho making 34 appearances for The Reds since, scoring one goal.
