Sassuolo director Giovanni Carnevali insists fullback and Napoli target Sime Vrsaljko is staying at the club for the upcoming season.

The 23-year-old Croatian international has established himself as a key player for the Neroverdi since moving from Genoa last summer, and his performances have attracted the attention of the Partonopei.

Carnevali confirmed to Sky Sport Italia that Napoli did make an offer for the player, but Sassuolo turned it down, and also spoke about new signing Gregoire Defrel from Cesena.

“Our intention is to keep Vrsaljko and we are counting on him for next season,” Carnevali insisted.

“It’s important and crucial for our team that he stays, and we want to make as few changes as possible. We want a big campaign, so Sime is not for sale.

“Napoli did make us an offer, proposing Omar El Kaddouri [in exchange], but he is not in our plans. Duvan Zapata could’ve been interesting, but that finished when he went to Udinese.

“Defrel? With him, our front line is complete. We have no interest in Alessandro Matri. Defrel was wanted by many clubs, such as Genoa, so it was a success that we got him.”
