Stoke City winger Xherdan Shaqiri has claimed he is happier in England than he was during his brief spell in Serie A with Inter.

The Swiss international denies that he had a problem with Nerazzurri coach Roberto Mancini and insists that he was only sold because the club needed money at the time.

“I’m currently living in a different way to how I was in Milan,” said Shaqiri to Swiss newspaper Blick.

“However, I didn’t have any problems there with the coach and Mancini would tell you the same thing.

“At the time, Inter needed money and I was the only player who they received a big offer for.

“Here in England things are much better though, the football is more spectacular although the fans were good in Italy too.”

The 23-year-old also revealed why potential moves to Schalke 04 and Borussia Dortmund didn’t materialise.

“They wanted me on loan with the right to make the deal permanent,” continued Shaqiri.

“You can criticise my choice, but for me it wasn’t a step backwards, I’m still not at the top of my game.”

The Albanian-born winger made just 15 appearances and scored one goal for Inter after joining from Bayern Munich in January 2015 before moving to the Premier League.
