antonio rudigerAntonio Rudiger has reportedly passed his medical at Roma ahead of his move from Stuttgart to the Serie A club.

The German defender is expected to join the Giallorossi on an initial loan agreement that could then become a permanent transfer at the season’s end for a fee rumoured to be around €12 million.

As reported by Vocegiallorossa.it, the defender has completed his medical at the Stadio Olimpico side and the move is all but confirmed.

Rudiger arrives in Rome with a knee injury, though he is expected to be available for selection by mid-September.

Prior to his injury in December, the 22-year-old had earned a starting position in the centre of Stuttgart’s defence and helped  the club avoid relegation from the Bundesliga in each of the last two seasons.

His impressive club performances earned him his first full competitive international cap with the German national team during the 2016 European Championship qualifier against Poland in October of 2014.

Roma’s acquisition of Rudiger comes as part of the club’s efforts to shore up their defence after the departure of several prominent defenders, chief among them top-rated homegrown centre-back Alessio Romagnoli.
