Basel coach Urs Fischer believes his side deserved to take all three points home from their Group I Europa League clash with Fiorentina.
The Swiss side came from a goal down thanks to goals from Bikir Bjarnason and Mohamed Elneny after Gonzalo Rodriguez had seen red for the Italians.
“It was a difficult game considering we conceded after just four minutes,” Fischer revealed in his post-match press conference.
“However, the team rallied well and it was a fantastic reaction from the players.
“We were brilliant until the final whistle.
“The result itself was very important and in my opinion well deserved.
Fiorentina captain Rodriguez was given a straight red just after the hour mark, following a late tackle by the Argentinian.
“The sending off was the correct decision”, said Fischer.
“Even so, we deserved the win regardless as we had the majority of possession.
“We did very well to recover from that early setback.”
