Chelsea will sign Marco Amelia on a free in order to cover their injury crisis.

The English side only have one fit senior goalkeeper after Thibaut Courtois was injured earlier in the season and Chelsea have identified Italian Amelia to fill in.

According to the Guardian, Amelia has been on trial at Chelsea and the London based club will sign the player on a short term deal.

Amelia made 41 appearances for AC Milan over a four-year period before leaving the club last year.

The former Palermo and Genoa keeper was also part of the Italy squad which won the World Cup in 2006 but did not play in the tournament.

Since leaving Milan, Amelia has spent time with amateur outfit Rocca Priora, before joining Perugia in January.
