Lorenzo Tonelli EmpoliEmpoli defender Lorenzo Tonelli has said that he views his club’s draw with Napoli on Sunday as encouraging progress after a difficult start to the season.

The 25-year-old Italian centre-back has seen his side lose the two opening games of their 2015-16 Serie A season, falling 3-1 at home to Chievo then 2-1 away at Milan.

Tonelli took to Twitter in an attempt to draw some positives after helping to earn Empoli’s first point of the season.

“We must defend better, but we are on track to achieve our first victory,” he tweeted.

Tonelli has been a standout performer for Empoli since he transitioned from the club’s youth academy in 2010.

Over 137 league appearances since then, he helped the club secure promotion back to Serie A and subsequently finish 15th in their first season back in Italy’s top flight in six years.
