Carlo TavecchioFIGC president Carlo Tavecchio hopes Italy coach Antonio Conte stays with the national side.

The national side are in the middle of more Euro 2016 qualifying matches and host Bulgaria in Palermo on Sunday night following their narrow 1-0 win over Malta on Thursday, in a match where they looked less convincing than previous performances.

“The numbers say that we are first in the group so we have almost reached our target of qualification,” Tavecchio told Sky Sport Italia.

“I am convinced that we will succeed,” he added.

“It’s true that we have not played our best, but it would be worse to lose while playing well.”

The 72-year-old then spoke about the future of the Azzurri coach, saying he wants him to remain with the team.

“I hope Conte stays until 2018 but of course there will be offers from other clubs,” he said.
