Giuseppe Rossi - FiorentinaFiorentina striker Giuseppe Rossi is reportedly close to signing a new contract with la Viola, having overcome his latest injury ordeal.

The 28-year-old missed the entirety of the 2014-15 season after suffering the latest in a series of knee injuries, but his impressive tally of seventeen goals in twenty-six matches for the Gigliati has earned the faith of his employers.

According to il Corriere Fiorentino, a new deal that would see the Italian international’s salary lowered from €2.4 million to €1.7m per season, is close to being agreed upon by the player and the club.

The new contract would be spread over a longer period to cater for the drop in wages, but ‘Pepito’ could also earn bonuses if performance-related targets are met.

The American-born forward is yet to feature in coach Paulo Sousa’s starting XI this season but that could be about to change when Fiorentina face Genoa at the Stadio Artemio Franchi on Saturday.
