Genoa v FiorentinaFiorentina host Genoa at the Stadio Artemio Franchi in one of the two early kick-offs in Serie A on Saturday evening.

La Viola go into the game on the back of a disappointing 3-1 defeat away to Torino whilst Genoa recorded their first victory of the season last time out with a 2-0 win against Hellas Verona.

Fiorentina did take the lead against Granata within ten minutes through a Marcos Alonso tap in but fell apart in a dismal ten minute second half that saw Torino score three goals and win the game.

Genoa meanwhile scored both goals in the second half against Verona after a stale first half performance.

Recent history would suggest that this game is likely to be a draw with neither side winning any of the last three encounters between the two teams. A Genoa victory is, however, very unlikely given that the Grifone have not won against Fiorentina since the 2009-10 season.

Fiorentina coach Paulo Sousa will have to decide on whether to start injury prone striker Giuseppe Rossi instead of Nikola Kalinic and the Portuguese boss will also have the option of thrusting new signing Jakub Blaszczykowski into the side for the first time.

The 45-year-old may also rest one of Facundo Roncaglia and Gonzalo Rodriguez who have been away on international duty with Argentina.

Leonardo Pavoletti and Sebastien De Maio will not be at Genoa coach Gian Piero Gasperini’s disposal after picking up injuries in the win against Verona, with both players set to be out for a further week.

New signing Christian Ansaldi will have to prove his fitness after he arrived from Zenit with a slight injury niggle.

Diego Perotti and Ezequiel Munoz are also likely to face a fitness test to see if they have recovered to full fitness following the international break.
