Walter Mazzarri InterAfter spells under coach Walter Mazzarri at both Napoli and Inter, veteran defender Hugo Campagnaro has lauded the 53-year-old as his footballing teacher.

Now plying his trade in Serie B with Pescara, the 35-year-old discussed his time with the likes of Mazzarri and current Inter coach Roberto Mancini, having played under both before leaving the Nerrazzurri in the summer.

“Walter Mazzarri was my teacher,” Campagnaro told Il Centro.

“He was my coach for eight years at Sampdoria, Napoli and Inter.

“He was always good to me, even when there were problems at Inter because of my decision to play for Argentina; he was a good motivator and tactician.

“Mazzarri also gave me the nickname El Toro, perhaps because of my size.”

Campagnaro also admitted that his preconceptions of former Galatasaray coach Mancini changed when he arrived at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.

“Mancini is technically excellent, but much more elastic than I previously thought.”
